Elmuerte’s Duplicate Bot Fix for UT3

By |2013-05-22T17:24:39-06:00March 20, 2012|Articles|Comments Off on Elmuerte’s Duplicate Bot Fix for UT3

The UT3 community is one that shares its talents!

Working for the love of the game many of us donate our time and talents. For many years I have faithfully run UT servers for the gaming masses from UT2003 to UT3. I have spent many an hour compressing maps, play testing maps, uploading maps, maintaining Unreal servers, etc. Our clan and its leaders have spent untold hours recruiting players. Mod, map and mutator makers have donated their time and talents to adding that extra touch to the game.

UT3 Dedicated Server Fix for Duplicate Bot Problem

A superb example of this dedication to all that is Unreal is the story behind the production of the DuplicateBotFix mutator.

The CoA House of Ass UT3 server runs the Greed game type among others. The bug in the game would cause every bot added to the server to have the same name. By the end of the night all the bots on the server would be named Ariel. Not like this stopped game play but it was down right irritating!

I made a post to the server admin list to see if any other Unreal server administrators knew how I could put an end to this plague of the duplicating Ariel bots.

Michiel “elmuerte” Hendriks – the programmer behind the Unreal Tournament 3 WebAdmin server admin tool – answered my post. Literally within minutes he diagnosed the problem of the duplicating Ariel Bots and created a mutator called DuplicateBotFix.

Badda-Bing – Badda Boom – problem solved. Thanks elmuerte!!

If you are suffering from the plague of the duplicate bots give elmuerte’s Duplicate Bot Fix mutator a try – it’s available to download by Clicking Here.

Duplicate Bot Fix Description:

Fixes issue with duplicating bots in Unreal Tournament 3 (UT3): From Michiel “elmuerte” Hendriks: “It happens when bots are present in the seemless server travel. When they travel to the next game their “active” flag is not “true”, thus when a new bots is spawned it will respawn a bots which is actually already active. Reproduction case: 1. start a server 2. make sure the bot roster contains a few entries 3. add a bot total players: 1bot, first entry from the roster 4. force a server travel (e.g. change the game through the webadmin). total players: 1bot from the previous game 5. add a bot total players: 2bots, both the same bot You can repeat step 4 and 5 and it will keep adding the same bot. It doesn’t make any changes to the bot roster. It will just update the information about which bots are already active. So, when a new bot needs to be added it will really pick an inactive bot.

Installation: *.u : [x]UTGamePublishedCookedPC *.int : [x]UTGameLocalization *.ini : [x]UTGameConfig Where [x] depends on your setup, on normal Windows installations it’s in your “My DocumentsMy GamesUnreal Tournament 3” directory. In Linux it’s “~/.ut3″ iirc. If you use the -nohomedir option it’s simply the installation directory (on all systems).”

Discovery Channel Kills Bear

By |2013-05-22T17:25:56-06:00March 15, 2012|Articles|Comments Off on Discovery Channel Kills Bear

Wongaya Gede Village, Bali, March, 14 2012 — The Discovery Channel announced this afternoon that they decided to kill Bear Grylls after it became impossible to settle a contract dispute.

Insiders report that Bear demanded that every episode include eating squirrel heads and drinking fermented Tasmanian bat blood. “Squirrel heads with a bat blood chaser?” exclaimed producer Debbie Moore. “What’s next? Licking honey badgers? It had to end here.”

The way Bear was terminated left a bad taste in the mouths of many.  Disney thugs hired by Discovery slipped Bear a Mickey in the frothy mugs of urine that studio caterers poured to trick Bear into signing bogus contracts.

Here is a copy of MSN Entertainment’s article on Bear’s Passing:

Apparently, the Discovery Channel was unwilling to meet the latest contract demands of “Man vs. Wild” star Bear Grylls — the British wilderness adventurer who eats gummy worms and bathes in his own excrement. Bear was killed by the Discovery Channel in a contract dispute, according to the Bollywood Reporter Akshay Kaushal.

“There was nothing left for us to do but kill him” said the show’s producer Stephen Rankin. “Discovery has discussed doing this for many years. We tried throwing Bear off cliffs, stripping him naked and tossing him into jungles, freezing him to death, and Bear just would not die.”

“Unfortunately, now that Bear is gone Bear and Discovery will never come to mutual agreement on new programming,” a Grylls rep told the Bollywood trade magazine, “and he disagrees with Discovery’s decision to terminate Bear. I am certain that Bear enjoyed every second of ‘Man vs. Wild’ and I for one am going to miss his crazy antics and macho grin.”

The dispute, according to the report, involved Grylls’ demand to eat squirrel heads and drink bat blood on every future episode.

The show — which wrapped its sixth season in August – averaged 1.1 million viewers and earned admirers including Jake Galadriel, Will Ferrit and Ben Stiletto, who paid to be on previous adventures.
